Alan White, Army National Guard, 1982-2005

Name: Alan White Grandparent of: Addilyn White, Upper Primary Branch of Service: Army National Guard Service Dates: November 1982 to May 2005   Just a little bio in case it is helpful:   My Grandfather, Alan White, spent 23 years with the Oklahoma National Guard (ONG). He enlisted in April, 1969, during the Vietnam War.  Basic training was at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, with the 101st Airborne Battalion.  He then went to Advanced Infantry Training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and was trained as a counter artillery radar operator.  After completing 6 months of combat training, he returned to his assigned combat support group in Guthrie, Oklahoma.  He spent the following 6 years there attaining the rank of Staff Seargent.  He was discharged in 1976. In 1982, he was recruited back into the ONG.  But, this time, he was assigned to Headquarters, State Area Command (STARC).  He was very successful there.  During his 17 years with STARC, he developed trai...

This is the Zaya's girls great grandfather Dean Tillotson who served in World War II.

David Garman, Vietnam War

This is a picture of Zayas girls with their grandpa, David Garman who served in the Vietnam war. They got to visit the memorial in DC in 2017 with him. It was a moving experience, as we reflected on how close he came to being one of the names on that wall. He stepped on a landmine in the war and spent months recovering in Japan. This picture is him with all of his grandkids.

This Purple Heart recipient lost his arm during the battle of Iwo Jima during World War II and witnessed the flag go up in the famous photos.
