Just a little bio in case it is helpful:
My Grandfather, Alan White, spent 23 years with the Oklahoma National Guard (ONG). He enlisted in April, 1969, during the Vietnam War. Basic training was at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, with the 101st Airborne Battalion. He then went to Advanced Infantry Training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and was trained as a counter artillery radar operator. After completing 6 months of combat training, he returned to his assigned combat support group in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He spent the following 6 years there attaining the rank of Staff Seargent. He was discharged in 1976. In 1982, he was recruited back into the ONG. But, this time, he was assigned to Headquarters, State Area Command (STARC). He was very successful there. During his 17 years with STARC, he developed training classes, made numerous training videos, became a member of the Army Military Police, served on the Oklahoma National Guard pistol and rifle competition team, and numerous other responsibilities. When he retired, he had attained the rank of Master Seargent. He was the State NCO (non-commissioned officer) responsible for the security and accountability of all arms, ammunition, and explosives in the state. He travelled all over Oklahoma to discharge his duties. Before retiring, he was tasked with writing the Army manual for arms, ammunition, and explosive security. My grandfather said after retiring, he greatly missed the camaraderie and friendships of his fellow soldiers.
